DTAC EDGING GLOWS IN VENICE
22.09.2010
At the beginning of the year, DTAC released a range of stair edging products providing designers with an exciting new array of 'pens to draw with,' with the ability to provide custom designed sections for clients on specific projects.
DTAC's commitment to pushing design boundaries in their product fields has led them to form a relationship with the Australian Insistute of Architects (AIA). This year DTAC formed a partnership with the AIA to providing in kind sponsorship for the Australian exhibition at this years Venice Architecture Biennale. Titled 'Now and When Australian Urbanism,' the exhibition looks at current Australian urban and anti-urban environments, contrasted with imaginations of Australian urban spaces of the future. This event is the most important event on the architectural calendar, both nationally and internationally.
Design By Pidgeon, graphic and exhibition designers for the event, wanted to create a dynamic environment for the pavilion that played on optical illusion, using fluorescent tape and customised fluorescent items throughout the space. DTAC responded positively to this brief, manufacturing a custom made stair edging product that glowed under the blacklights to create both a design and safety feature between the two main spaces of the exhibition.
A unique fluorescent powder coat was specifically made in conjunction with Dulux and was applied to the stair edging, along with bespoke signage and furniture items which DTAC also created for the exhibition. to match the remainder of the fluorescent items throughout the exhibition.
Sir Norman Foster declared the Australian exhibition the best of the Biennale. A glowing report just like DTAC's stair edging.
